Pioneer America Society
The Pioneer America Society was founded by Henry H. Douglas in 1967 “to promote concern for the loss of the visible symbols of our pioneer heritage anywhere in the nation, and to provide a communications media for those who share this interest” (1971 flier). Members of the Society included architects, historians and people with a strong interest in preservation. The headquarters were located at 626 South Washington Street in Falls Church, Virginia. The Society issued several publications, including the annual Pioneer America collection of essays and the quarterly Echoes of History newsletter. The organization continues today as The International Society for Landscape, Place, and Material Culture.
